We talked to a young lady who came up with this perfect idea and found out what benefits running with a dog brings, what it helps with and how to run with a dog safely.

What are the mental and mental health benefits of running a dog?

There are many benefits to running a dog. When we talk about mental health, running with a dog requires discipline, perseverance, mental readiness to deal with ourselves and another living being that depends on us.

It is not easy in the beginning, it is a person’s decision to beat himself and put physical activity in the foreground. That despite the difficulties, it persists, because it improves the lifestyle and mental health. Few can be with themselves and have a good time.

Running is an individual sport. According to psychologists, runners are considered introverted people who have no problem being with themselves and in their thoughts.

They don’t even need classic dating. It is often our valve and time to sort out the impressions of the day. What thoughts come up as you run depends on the case.

People today are generally much less frequently with themselves and much less engaged in introspection, so every opportunity should be used for that. Runners have more time to deal with themselves and come home happier after training.

When we add to all that that our company is a dog, the feeling of satisfaction after every mile run is invaluable because when we lie down and wake up happier, we know that we did something good for ourselves and our four-legged friend.

How did you come up with the idea to start running?

At first, I would say easy and simple, but when I go back a few years, from this distance I realize that it was a very complex, serious and not so simple process that still lasts. I put it together nicely and usefully.

On the one hand, my psyche and various negative thoughts that were running through my head, I needed sports, physical activity, on the other hand, I got a cute dog, a breed that belongs to the group of working dogs with special active energy.

When he and I started living together, I largely ran alone, I realized that it was useful and practical for both of us to start running together. It all starts with that enthusiasm.

You want to come with me today, let’s try? And, for the fourth year in a row, we have been running the miles together. He is less alone in the house, he spends energy most naturally, we additionally connect and create a stronger connection.

It was a natural click. I didn’t want to be alone while I was training, and with all our long walks, he was full of energy again until running became a habit.

Our racing journey is still going on and we both learned a lot from it, I would say. Considering that at the time when I introduced my dog to training, there was nothing under the Internet that would prepare us, help and facilitate the beginning, which is always challenging and knows how to test our desire, nerves, perseverance, I decided to change something there.

I wrote down our training, the process and wished “one day” to pass it on to people who would also run with a dog. We see runners with dogs more and more often, I notice that many are “struggling” and we are here to shorten their path and discover shortcuts to introducing a dog to training and facilitate the process.

So, I spontaneously sailed into something that now, four years later, is called Running with a Dog and gathers like-minded people. I am glad that we are talking about this topic now because this is the first comprehensive site, a community of dog runners in our area, we approach the topic from several angles.
