Here’s where you go wrong and how to make your plans realistic, efficient and achievable. To achieve our goals, we must first set them, that is. we define – here’s how.
If you want to be successful in life and get everything you want, you must have certain goals. And to achieve them, you must first learn how to define and set them:
because their realization largely depends on a good plan. But a good plan alone is not a guarantee that you will achieve your goal. It takes a lot more to do that.
Here are nine goal-setting rules:
Be selective
We have so much to do, and so little time. Therefore, one of the biggest mistakes you can make is to set too many goals. Set one to a maximum of three big goals and focus on them.
Whether you can achieve just one or all three will depend on their size and what is involved in achieving them.
Focusing on one goal at a time gives you the greatest chance of success because our brains cannot deal effectively with more than two complexes, related activities at once.
Be smart about your goals
When setting goals, you need to make sure you are as specific as possible. You also have to believe that the goal has been achieved.
If you feel unrealistic deep down, you will be discouraged, but you are also less likely to push and take action if you do not see the goal as a challenge. Goals must motivate us to move forward.
Every goal you set should be your own, something you want to achieve, not just something someone else wants for you or because you think it should.
Apart from being realistic, the goal should also be limited in time, i.e., to have an agreed completion date.
Write down your goal
How many times have you had a great idea but later failed to remember it? Maybe you were driving or lying in bed, shopping… Always have a small notebook with you.
The best way to crystallize your goal is to write it down, type it, or paint it, if that is your creative expression.
Positive tone
When writing down your goal, use the positive phrase “I will”, “I finished”. Until that date, while our conscious mind questions any information it receives, the subconscious does not.
She readily accepts everything you offer here! So when you say that you have done something or are doing something, the subconscious will accept it as reality, and in doing so, you are more likely to look for ways in which you can make the statement true.
By putting things in a positive light, you are also focusing on what you want, not what you don’t want.
Write a clear action plan
It is not enough to just have a goal. A goal without a plan is just a wish. Without a clear plan of concrete steps and actions that you need to take (and by when), you will not have much chance of success.
Visualization
This is a very powerful tool used even by top athletes.
Take the time to visualize yourself doing certain tasks that you will have to do to achieve your goal, and then imagine yourself achieving your goal. Visualizing results can also be very useful and motivating.
Make a vision board and place it somewhere where you will regularly see it as a reminder of what you are trying to achieve and why.
Share your goal with others
When you share your plans with the people you love and trust the most, they will be reminders, motivation when you want to give up and when it seems like it wasn’t a good idea.
They will ask you from time to time how far you have come, so it will be an additional incentive for you to work hard.
Review the goal and action plan regularly
When we don’t think about something for a while, we naturally start shifting our focus to something else. Therefore, regularly review how you stand with your goal.
Celebrate milestones
Whatever your goals, be it starting your own business, changing jobs, moving, improving, the journey can be long, so take the time to notice when you have reached certain milestones and celebrate small successes along the way!
