10 minutes of playing with a pet – enough to relieve stress

Those who have pets know what a warm look and uncompromising trust mean to them when they return to their homes after an exhausting day.

Research conducted by a prestigious university confirms that cuddling with a pet deprives you of stress in a few minutes.

What are the results?

About 250 students participated in the survey. They were divided into three groups, where the first group played with cats and dogs for 10 minutes, the second group watched it, and the third group was shown photos of pets on slides and told that they would play with them later in the day.

The scientists had collected cortisol samples, from saliva, from each subject, starting in the morning, before the experiment began.

The results showed that those students who played with animals during the day had significantly lower cortisol values.

We already knew that those students who enjoy interacting with animals had experiences richer in positive emotions. What we wanted to examine was whether, and how much pets affect stress.

And they affect, which is quite exciting, considering that the reduction of stress hormones, in the long run, can seriously affect physical and mental health, one professor explained in a statement.

So, if you are anxious, nervous or have any problems or disorders in everyday life – get a pet!
